The cajón is a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru, played by slapping the front face (generally thin plywood) with the hands.
We have recorded 2 cajons with 3 mics: stereo pair in front of the instrument and a mono mic in the back to better get the bass tone. Both played with hand and brushes. Articulations: 10x Round Robin, 6 velocity layers and left/right samples to get the most realistic and organic sound. We’ve mapped it in a way that is very playable, every articulation has 2 keys in order to play it with both hands, very intuitive and musical.
We’ve added a custom script to control the volume, pan and tune of each mic right in the GUI.
